Located above the Carsington Water reservoir in Derbyshire, Waters View is a striking new headquarters and visitor centre for fine jewellers C.W. Sellors.
Designed by local Architects, Evans Vettori and constructed by G.F. Tomlinson, the development combines workshops, boutique retail, café, terrace and education spaces across three levels, partially built into the hillside.
Northern Structural Services were appointed to undertake the structural and civil engineering design for the scheme, including reinforced concrete retaining walls to accommodate the subterranean nature of the lower floors and a raft foundation bridging varying ground conditions.
A composite steel frame and metaldeck floor were adopted to achieve column-free internal spaces for manufacturing, finishing and display areas. These were carefully coordinated with architectural requirements and M&E services, including a prominent cantilever roof structure to the front and rear.
Civil engineering design included SUDS features such as an attenuation pond and pollution control measures to protect the adjacent Carsington Water reservoir. The site-wide drainage and water treatment systems were developed alongside earthworks and external works design to suit the challenging topography and ground.
